Like diet and fitness, skincare is a continuous process that needs commitment. So, when Michelle Ranavat, founder of a beauty brand, shared an Ayurvedic drink recipe for glowing skin at 41, we decided to take note. “I’ve been drinking this one lately and have noticed how it has improved my skin from the inside OUT!” Ranavat stated on Instagram.
How to make the concoction?

3 – Cardamom pods
Jaggery to taste.
Method
*Add all ingredients except jaggery.
*Boil for 5-10 minutes until it’s reduced.
*Strain. Add jaggery.

Does it work?
A combination of various spices like fenugreek seeds, carom, fennel, cinnamon, and cardamom with jaggery indeed makes the skin glow, said Soumita Biswas, chief clinical nutritionist, Aster RV Hospital, Bengaluru.
“This combination of spices is good for gut health, improves metabolic rate, reduces flatulence, and thus purifies the blood, detoxifying and improving skin health,” said Biswas.

Free radicals are responsible for the development of wrinkles and age spots on the skin, stated Biswas, adding that the seeds contain vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants that can strengthen the immune system and help the body fight infections, which are reflected in the skin.
However, Dr Rinky Kapoor, consultant dermatologist, cosmetic dermatologist and dermato-surgeon, The Esthetic Clinics, Mumbai said one those over 40 must not have fenugreek seeds for a long time without consulting an expert as their “metabolism tends to be slower.”
“Moreover, higher jaggery consumption causes bloating, indigestion, constipation, and tooth decay. It is better to avoid any home remedies for glowing skin, and seek the help of a dermatologist who will design a proper skincare routine for you,” said Dr Kapoor.

One should also stay hydrated, eat a well-balanced diet, and exercise daily instead of adhering to any herbal or home remedies as there is no concrete evidence regarding their safety and results. Be careful before trying any herbal drinks, or concoctions, said Dr Kapoor.
