Deep Fridge wins National Award for Best Bengali Feature Film

Filmmaker Arjunn Dutta has brought pride to Bengali cinema by winning the National Award for Best Bengali Feature Film for his introspective film Deep Fridge at the 71st National Film Awards.

The film stars Abir Chatterjee, Tnusree Chakraborty, Anuradha Mukherjee among others.The film which is penned by the director stands out as an exploration of emotional repression, domestic silence, and the hidden fragility of human relationships. The film, marked by its layered storytelling and restrained performances, has resonated strongly with both audiences and critics, making this national recognition especially significant.“The film’s win is a proud moment not only for us but for Bengali cinema as a whole, highlighting the continued importance of regional voices in the national cinematic landscape,” said the director. Talking about the story line of the film, Arjunn said, “Divorces can be tricky and tough. Our human brains have evolved to hone a drive for love and partnership that lasts just long enough until one is predisposed. In this film both Swarnava and Mili are victims of this vicious, prejudiced idea of a perfectly happy marriage. Will they be able to seek closure post their divorce and see things with more clarity in an effort to build a guilt free future for both of them separately which is fair to their only child Tatai is this film all about.
