The probe into the “white collar terror module" allegedly responsible for the Delhi Red Fort blast has revealed an “exclusive human connection" linking Dr Umar Nabi and Dr Muzammil Ganaie, the two key accused.
According to sources, the link is centered on a woman who is originally from Lucknow and presently works in Faridabad.
The sources said this singular link became vital to the probe due to a crucial warning passed between the woman and Dr Muzammil. She told the police that in July, he told her that Dr Umar was planning something “spectacular" in September, they said.
They said the woman’s close association with Muzammil is evidenced by his frequent presence at her residence; she lived in a faculty-provided 2-BHK flat in Faridabad, which he Muzammil often visited. She told the investigators that her car had two keys, one of which Muzammil kept, they added.
The woman, the sources said, is a highly educated professional with an MD in pharmacology, which she completed in 2005. Her academic journey included studying at GSVM Medical College in Kanpur, they said.
They said she married in 2013 and, subsequently, moved with her husband and son to Saudi Arabia in 2014. She lived and travelled in both Saudi Arabia and Dubai, they added.
But her marriage had failed and she ultimately got a divorce in 2023, the sources said. The dissolution of the marriage was first processed under sharia procedures and later finalised in court, they said.
Her critical connection to Muzammil provided authorities with intimate details, including that he was arrested on October 30 and that, at one time, he had proposed to her, they said. Her testimony regarding Dr Umar’s September plan, relayed to her via Muzammil, provided the essential thread connecting the two accused, they added.
Dr Umar Nabi is accused of being the bomber in the massive blast that rocked Delhi on the evening of November 10 when a Hyundai i20 car exploded at 6.52 pm near the Red Fort, killing 13 people and injuring several others. The impact of the explosion was such that several vehicles were damaged, and visuals from the site showed mangled bodies and scattered debris.
Dr Muzammil Ganaie was arrested in connection with running an alleged terror module in Faridabad. He was a physician at the Al-Falah University.
