The R.T. Nagar police on Sunday arrested a 21-year-old delivery executive for allegedly molesting a Brazilian national while delivering groceries on October 17.
The victim, out of fear, did not disclose the incident until her three other flatmates approached the owner of the company they were employed at and flagged the incident.
Based on the complaint filed by Karthik Vinayak, the employer of the victim, the police registered an FIR against the accused charging him under section 75(1) (offence of sexual harassment) and 76 (assaulting a woman or using criminal force against her with the intent to disrobe her or compel her to be naked) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, on Saturday.
The police tracked down the accused identified as Kumar, a diploma student working part-time as a delivery executive.
He was arrested and remanded in judicial custody on Sunday.
The victim was a model and was living in an apartment provided by the company along with three other models. She ordered groceries on a mobile app. The incident took place when the accused went to the address to deliver the items and allegedly touched her inappropriately when she came to get the order.
Shocked by this, the victim reportedly pushed him out and locked the door. She later shared the incident with her flatmates. They raised the issue with their company owner who later verified the CCTV footage and lodged the complaint with the police.
