Flight operations at the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) were affected on Tuesday morning as dense fog and low visibility conditions prevailed across the national capital, prompting multiple passenger advisories from the airport authorities through the early hours of the day.

In an advisory issued at 4 am, Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) said that “Low Visibility Procedures are in progress at Delhi Airport", while adding that “all flight operations are presently normal."

Passengers were advised to remain in touch with their respective airlines for updated information on their flights.

However, as visibility conditions worsened with dense fog continuing to blanket the city, the airport operator issued a fresh update at 6 am, warning of possible disruptions.

In the advisory, DIAL said, “Due to dense fog, flight operations are currently under CAT III conditions, which may lead to delays or disruptions."

It added, “We are working closely with all stakeholders to minimise any inconvenience. For the latest flight status, kindly contact your respective airlines."

The same advisory was reiterated at 7 am, as fog continued to impact operations at the airport during the morning hours.

CAT III conditions enable aircraft equipped with advanced navigation systems to land in extremely low visibility. However, even under such conditions, flight schedules are often affected due to safety protocols, spacing between aircraft, and ground handling constraints.

Train services in the region were also disrupted due to reduced visibility, causing inconvenience to passengers.

Several trains were reported to be running behind schedule, while a few were cancelled, according to early morning visuals and information from the New Delhi Railway Station.

Passengers were seen waiting on platforms amid dense fog as announcements of delayed departures continued.

The disruption to flight and train operations comes amid persistently poor weather conditions in the national capital. Dense fog has been a recurring issue over the past several days, affecting transport services and daily commuting during the early morning hours.

On Monday, more than 500 flights were delayed, and at least 14 flights were cancelled at the Delhi airport due to bad weather and low visibility conditions, news agency PTI reported.

According to an official cited by the agency, the cancelled flights included six arrivals and eight departures, and also involved international services.

Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport is the country’s largest aviation hub and generally handles around 1,300 flights daily.

On Monday, data from flight tracking website Flightradar24 showed that the average delay time was a little over 30 minutes, highlighting the scale of disruption caused by adverse weather.
