Denzel Washington shares his thoughts on cancel culture
During an interview with Complex News, Denzel Washington talked about cancel culture. When asked about whether the Oscar winner is worried about “getting canceled”, the actor revealed that it is one of the things that he is not worried about at all. He replied by asking a question of his own: “What does that mean — to be canceled?”When the host clarified that the meaning behind the phrase is that when a celebrity or person in general loses support from the public, Washington had a clear answer in mind. In his reply, he simply said, “Who cares?”While the host called supporters “today’s currency”, Denzel was clear with his opinion on cancel culture.
He added, “I don’t care who’s following who. You can’t lead and follow at the same time, and you can’t follow and lead at the same time. I don’t follow anybody. I follow the heavenly spirit. I follow God, I don’t follow man. I have faith in God. I have hope in man, but look around, it ain’t working out so well”.He also shared that one cannot be affected by such things if they are not a part of that kind of culture. While talking about it, Washington also added, ”Don't sign up.
Don’t get me started. My chest started hurting. You know, chest is getting tight talking about it”.
