DGP YB Khurania reviews security arrangement ahead of Nuapada bypoll

Bhubaneswar: Ahead of the bypoll to Nuapada assembly constituency, director general of police YB Khurania on Saturday visited Nuapada district to review security arrangements.

The bypoll is on Nov 11.Khurania first visited the CRPF camps at Sunabeda and Datunama on the Odisha-Chhattisgarh border, followed by a visit to the IR Battalion camp at Jamgaon. There, he discussed various issues with senior officers and personnel of the paramilitary forces and Odisha police. He praised them for their hard work and advised them to stay prepared and alert for the bypoll.Later, the DGP participated in a high-level meeting with senior police officers at Nuapada to extensively review the law and order situation during the election, security arrangements at polling stations, and additional security measures in Maoist-affected areas.Khurania emphasised the importance of anti-Maoist operations based on district police strategy and intelligence inputs. He stressed taking preventive measures, seizing illegal weapons and liquor, executing pending warrants (NBWs), and intensifying all types of precautionary measures.Senior police officers were instructed to ensure the security of EVMs with CCTV coverage, adequate security in strong rooms, and strict adherence to the Election Commission of India’s guidelines.

Instructions were given to follow these guidelines for the security arrangements related to VIP and VVIP visits.The DGP also instructed officers to strictly adhere to the election code of conduct. To ensure the entire election process is peaceful, free, and fair, he emphasised deploying additional forces, conducting strict patrolling along inter-state borders, and monitoring anti-social elements. Senior police officers were present during the review meeting and visit.
