Dhanbad: A breastfeeding-cum-changing room, which was inaugurated at the Dhanbad Collectorate on Saturday on the occasion of Statehood Day, started operating from Monday.It was opened by Nirsa MLA Arup Chatterjee and deputy commissioner-cum-district magistrate Aditya Ranjan.Ranjan said the initiative was not merely about opening a room but a commitment to respect and support all mothers who visit the collectorate or attend public hearings with their infants. The room also have toys and other stuff to keep children engaged.Women visiting the collectorate to submit grievances have welcomed the initiative. Many said that the space offers comfort and a sense of dignity, especially during long waiting hours for public hearings.
They said that having a private room allows them to feed their children or adjust their clothing without discomfort.Anita Devi, who arrived from Bhuli area with her infant to meet the DC regarding a domestic dispute, said she previously struggled due to the lack of a private space. She added that the new breastfeeding room will greatly ease such challenges for women who spend four to five hours at the collectorate during public hearings.In addition to this facility, the district’s transit (Parnayayan) branch was also inaugurated on the collectorate premises.
