Dhanbad police seize smuggled liquor consignment from West Bengal, arrest kingpin

Dhanbad: The police seized a consignment of liquor, which was allegedly being smuggled into Bihar from West Bengal, from Govindpur on Sunday evening. The kingping of the racket was also arrested and booked under sections of the BNSS and Excise Act the police said on Monday.Shankar Kamaty, DSP (Dhanbad headquarters –1), said, “During a routine patrol at around 4 pm, police received a tip-off about a pickup van carrying illegal liquor from Nirsa. The vehicle, bearing registration number JH 10CU 0924 was reportedly concealing the consignment under sacks of potatoes. Acting swiftly on the information, the police launched a special vehicle-checking drive at Upar Bazar in Govindpur.

As the vehicle approached the check point, it was signalled to stop. Sensing trouble, its driver fled using the crowd as a cover. The vehicle was seized and brought to Govindpur police station for inspection, where 108 cartons of India Made Foreign Liquor bottles were hidden beneath 12 potato sacks.Soon after, Sonu Kumar Singh, the alleged mastermind of the racket, was arrested. Singh is a resident of Nichu Dhowra in Kumardhubi under Chirkunda police station limits of the district. in Dhanbad district. “A case was registered at Govindpur police station on Sunday itself, and further investigation is underway. Efforts are being made to trace and apprehend other members of the smuggling network,” Kamaty said.
