Dibrugarh: The Dibrugarh District Library Auditorium was a hub of reverence and celebration on Friday as the district centrally observed the 64th Teachers’ Day on the birth anniversary of the eminent educationist and former President of India, Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan.The programme commenced with floral tributes to Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan’s portrait and the traditional lighting of the ceremonial lamp.The keynote address was delivered by Dr Bhimkanta Baruah, a retired Professor from the Assamese Department of Dibrugarh University. In his speech, Dr Baruah emphasised the evolving challenges and opportunities within the education system.“The role of teachers in building the human resources for our country is not just important, it is foundational.
In this era of a rapidly changing education system, our educators are the pillars who must adapt and guide students to become not just scholars, but compassionate and critical thinkers,” Baruah said.District Commissioner Bikram Kairi spoke about the crucial role educators play in national development. “The responsibility of teachers in building a progressive nation and society is immense. Educational institutions must strive diligently to mould each student into a good citizen and human resource for the country,” Kairi said.
Three teachers received the ‘Meritorious Teacher Award’: Devajit Saikia, Assistant Teacher of Rangsangi Balika ME School under Panitola Education Block, Jugal Konwar, Assistant Teacher of Siringhola ME School under Lahowal Education Block and Jayanta Buragohain, Assistant Teacher of Bamunbari High School under Khowang Education Block.Two educators were honoured with the ‘Special Service Award’: Chanchal Majumdar and Sanjeeb Paul, both graduate teachers at Namchang Tea Estate Adarsh Vidyalaya under the Joypur Education Block.In addition to individual recognition, 23 schools that achieved remarkable success with pass percentages of 90% or above in the 2025 HSLC examinations were honoured for their outstanding performance.The event witnessed the participation of several prominent figures, including Rajya Sabha MP Rameswar Teli, MLA Punakon Baruah, and Pankaj Borathakur, Registrar of Shri Shri Aniruddhadeva Sports University. District-based Governor’s Senior Teacher Award recipient Madan Manjuri Konwar also graced the occasion alongside numerous retired teachers and active educators from various schools.
