Dibrugarh district commissioner holds meeting to discuss Durga Puja preparations

A key coordination meeting was held at the Dibrugarh district commissioner’s office on Thursday to finalise preparations for the upcoming Durga Puja celebrations, with approximately 110 community pujas expected to be organised across the city this year.The high-level meeting brought together office-bearers from all Durga Puja committees in Dibrugarh, alongside senior administrative and police officials to address crucial aspects of the festival arrangements. Key discussions centered around public safety protocols, traffic management, pandal security measures, lighting infrastructure, and idol immersion procedures.The meeting was attended by several senior officials, including deputy mayor Ujjal Phukon, additional district commissioner Biraj Baruah, Dibrugarh Municipal Corporation commissioner Jay Vikas, and additional SP (Headquarters) Nirmal Ghosh.
Circle officer of Dibrugarh East Revenue Circle Samujjal Bora, election officer Pranjeel Gogoi, and assistant commissioner Surabhi Srivastava were also present.“Our primary objective is to ensure that the devotees and residents can celebrate with joy and without any hindrance. This requires meticulous planning from all departments, from traffic control to electricity supply. With approximately 110 community pujas planned, coordination between all stakeholders is essential,” ADC Biraj Baruah said.
DMC commissioner Jay Vikas reiterated the importance of using eco-friendly materials for idols and adhering to guidelines for a chemical-free immersion process in the Brahmaputra River to minimise ecological impact.The puja committeee presidents, secretaries, and members actively participated in the discussions, providing valuable input on ground-level requirements and challenges. Traffic strategies were particularly emphasised given the expected large gatherings during the festival period.
A major point of discussion was the enforcement of traffic regulations to prevent congestion around the densely populated puja pandals.Representatives from multiple departments participated in the discussions, including officials from the police transport department, fire service, electricity department, Public Works Department (roads and buildings), Water resources department, and pollution control department.With preparations now in full swing, the district administration expressed confidence in delivering a peaceful and incident-free Durga Puja celebration for the people of Dibrugarh.
