AOA was once one of the most popular girl groups in the industry. However, after several controversies surrounding a member of the group came to light, members started leaving the group.
One such member was ChoA. In a recent interview, the singer finally shared one of the major reasons why she felt the need to leave the group.
Former AOA member ChoA shares why she left the group
On August 20, ChoA featured in an episode of the popular variety show called 'Pyjama Party’ alongside Soyul, a former member of Crayon Pop. She finally got candid about her time in AOA, and shared that even though it was her dream to become an idol from her childhood, she realised that this role demanded a lot more than “just hard work”. The star also confessed, “It was the hardest period. That’s when BLACKPINK and TWICE debuted. With new groups like them coming out, I realized this was my peak”. In her words, ChoA felt at the time that it was the right decision to make for her, since she was leaving the group in peak years, when “The applause was still loud.”
Life after leaving AOA
After leaving the group in 2017, the idol has remained in the public eye for the past 8 years. Recently, she has been making more and more appearances on variety and reality TV shows in order to get back into the limelight. AOA has been inactive and on a break since 2020, after one of the members, Jimin, was involved in a bullying scandal after fellow member Kwon Mina confessed that she was targeted in the group.
