Patna: Bihar director general of police (DGP) Vinay Kumar on Thursday honoured 46 EOU officers and personnel with appreciation letters and cash rewards for their work on tackling cybercrime.
The honours were done during the inauguration of a new cyber operation hall at the Economic Offences Unit (EOU) in the city by the DGP in presence of senior officers, including additional director general (ADG) of EOU, Nayyar Hasnain Khan.The awards recognised the outstanding work of officials and personnel in various areas, including cybercrime investigation, digital forensics and intelligence gathering.The DGP appreciated the recent achievements of the EOU in tackling cybercrime, highlighting the increase in public confidence and the importance of reporting them.The cyber division of the EOU has blocked Rs 30 crore in fraudulent transactions and arrested of 148 cybercriminals under its “Cyber Prahar” campaign.The DGP said the cybercrime is a global issue, with criminals operating across international borders. “There is a need for law enforcement agencies to stay ahead of these threats. Human intelligence should be combined with technology to combat the cybercrime effectively,” he said.
The EOU has established a digital investigation and cyber forensic lab recently. The EOU is working to enhance its capabilities in investigating the cybercrimes, including of new units and the use of advanced technology, the officials said.The unit is also working to strengthen its collaboration with stakeholders, including service providers, to improve the response to the cybercrime incidents. The EOU has been emphasising the importance of public awareness and education in preventing the cybercrimes and promoting a safe online environment.A presentation was also given on the achievements and challenges of the EOU, highlighting the progress made in tackling cybercrime and financial offences.
