DMK MLA's aide, another man arrested for sexual assault of 20-year-old disabled boy

Tamil Nadu police have arrested two men, including the personal assistant of a DMK MLA, in connection with the sexual assault of a 20-year-old disabled man.

The accused were identified as A Adhiyamaan, aged 39, personal assistant to Bargur DMK MLA D Mathiazhagan, and Asal Ali, who runs a fancy store and is said to have links with the DMK. Police said the duo allegedly sexually assaulted the youth near the Krishnagiri toll gate about 10 days ago.

According to police sources, the incident did not occur under the influence of alcohol. “The assault happened when both men were in a normal state of mind,” an officer said.

The case took a political turn when AIADMK leaders alleged that Krishnagiri Town Inspector Venkatesh Prabhu and Krishnagiri town DMK west in-charge Aslam Rehman Sheriff intervened in a khap panchayat-style meeting to pressurise the victim into withdrawing the complaint.

However, senior police officials dismissed these claims, insisting that an FIR had been registered under the Disability Act and both accused were in custody until September 22.

Police confirmed that the victim was safe and receiving care.
