Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath mocked opposition leaders Akhilesh Yadav and Rahul Gandhi during a debate on the cough syrup smuggling racket. The remarks escalated political tensions amid ongoing investigations and accusations.
Amid the political slugfest over codeine-based cough syrup racket, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath ridiculed opposition leaders Akhilesh Yadav and Rahul Gandhi by referring to them as namune (specimen).
Speaking in the state assembly on Monday, Yogi Adityanath took potshots at the Congress MP and Samajwadi Party supremo without naming them as he lauded his government’s crackdown on the cross-border cough syrup trafficking syndicate.
“Desh ke andar do namune hain (There are two specimens in the country). One sits in Delhi and the other in Lucknow. When there is any discussion on any issue, they immediately flee the country,” he said.
He further jibed, “I think the same thing is happening with your ‘Babua’ (child). He will also leave the country again for a trip to England, and you people will keep shouting here.”
The barbed remarks came amid a war of words with Akhilesh Yadav over the alleged codeine cough syrup smuggling case. Last week, the Samajwadi Party chief had claimed at a press conference that the racket originated from the Prime Minister’s parliamentary constituency, triggering sharp pushback from the BJP.
