The Siddapura police on Tuesday arrested a 26-year-old domestic help for stealing ₹7 lakh worth of gold valuables from the house she was working at.
The police have recovered the items from a jewel shop where she had allegedly pawned them.
The accused, identified as Puja, hailing from Nepal, had been working at an apartment in Jayanagar 1st block. The accused stopped coming to work after two months of joining. During the time, the employer’s family was out of town. The theft came to light when the family returned and checked the wardrobe and found that the gold valuables were missing.
Based on the complaint, the police tracked down the accused, who by then had vacated the house and shifted her location to Banaswadi where she was working in another house as a domestic help.
