Rohini Acharya’s emotional post rocks Lalu Yadav clan after Bihar poll drubbing

NEW DELHI: Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad Yadav’s daughter Rohini Acharya has triggered a public rupture inside the Yadav household, unleashing a wave of accusations and political tremors just days after the party’s humiliating performance in the Bihar assembly polls.

In a series of emotional posts, she accused her brother Tejashwi Yadav and his close aides of abusing, humiliating and “throwing” her out of the family home—an outburst that has now deepened fault lines within one of Bihar’s most influential political dynasties.

Her posts described being called “dirty,” accused of taking crores of rupees, securing a ticket, and donating a “dirty kidney” to her father. She narrated being subjected to verbal abuse, physical threats, and an attempt to hit her with a slipper.

The outpouring came with an extraordinary appeal to women to never sacrifice for their parental homes, saying she regretted donating her kidney without considering her husband, children or in-laws.

By Saturday evening, she announced she was quitting politics and “disowning” her family, claiming Tejashwi, Sanjay Yadav and Rameez Nemat Khan were responsible for “throwing her out.” Her allegations have erupted at a moment of vulnerability for the RJD.

The party crashed to just 25 seats despite contesting over 140 in the 243-member assembly, while the NDA swept 202 seats—its strongest mandate in years—reshaping Bihar’s political map. The meltdown within Lalu’s family has compounded the post-election introspection, with the leadership largely silent even as public attention sharpens on the feud. Rohini’s outburst also prompted movement within the family.

Three of her sisters—Ragini, Chanda and Rajlakshmi—left the Patna residence soon after her posts, while others were seen departing for Delhi with children, avoiding media interaction. Their brother Tej Pratap Yadav, long estranged from the party and reportedly disowned earlier this year, publicly backed her and warned of “dire consequences” for the humiliation she faced. In a sharp message aimed at Tejashwi’s aides, he referred to “Jaichands” undermining the Yadav family and appealed to Lalu to act. Despite the spiralling developments, Lalu Prasad, Rabri Devi, Tejashwi Yadav and other senior family members have maintained complete silence—a sign of the conflict’s sensitivity. The party organisation has not issued any formal response either, though some insiders privately acknowledged that resentment had been simmering as Tejashwi consolidated control and relied increasingly on a small circle of loyal advisers. One of those advisers now under scrutiny is Rameez Nemat Khan, the figure at the centre of Rohini’s accusations. A former age-group cricketer who grew close to Tejashwi through sports, Rameez formally joined the RJD in 2016 and gradually became part of his inner political circle. But his background is controversial—he faces multiple criminal cases in Uttar Pradesh, has been arrested more than once, and is the son-in-law of criminal-turned-politician Rizwan Zaheer.

Rohini also targeted Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Yadav, widely seen as Tejashwi’s strategising mind, blaming the duo for alienating her and weakening the party. In her posts, Rohini said her parents wept as she was forced out, blaming Tejashwi’s aides for the chaos engulfing the family. She added that married women should “never” try to save their parents and must focus only on their marital homes—words reflecting both anger and deep hurt. She insisted she had acted out of devotion when she donated her kidney to Lalu but was today treated as a burden and insulted for it. The unfolding drama has spilled into Bihar’s broader political discourse. JD(U) spokesperson Neeraj Kumar urged Lalu Prasad to break his silence, saying Rohini is “the daughter of all of Bihar” and the patriarch owes an explanation.
