Minister for Industries, Commerce, and Food Processing T.G. Bharath on Sunday said that the ration supplies would be distributed through fair price shops, while special provisions for door delivery to cardholders aged 65 and above and persons with disabilities would continue.
Speaking at the relaunch of ration distribution at a fair price shop in NR Peta here, the Minister said that the government is prioritising the convenience of beneficiaries. “Unlike the previous YSRCP government, the present coalition government has prioritised the distribution of ration to the beneficiaries at the shops. The earlier system of delivery through mobile vans had led to a lot of inconvenience to the public,” he said.
The relaunch of the earlier system was done after an eleven-month-long review by the coalition government. Under the new system, the beneficiaries can collect their monthly supplies from the 1st of every month till the 15th, between 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
District Collector P. Ranjit Basha said that all logistical arrangements were completed to facilitate smooth distribution at ration shops across the district from June 1.
On this occasion, the Minister, Collector, and Joint Collector B. Navya delivered a ration package to 75-year-old J. Raghunath Rao, a resident of Kothapeta locality in Kurnool, at his doorstep. “I cannot stand in queue and carry heavy bags. The system of door delivery to physically disabled and elderly persons is a boon,” he said.
Revenue Divisional Officer (Kurnool) Sandeep Kumar, District Civil Supplies Officer Raja Raghuveer, and senior officials were present.
