BAREILLY: A 35-year-old Army constable was arrested on Saturday for allegedly driving his car onto a platform at Meerut Cantt railway station, govt railway police (GRP) officials said. The accused allegedly drove his car onto platform 1 in an inebriated state on Friday night. “He was spotted by a constable who asked him to reverse the vehicle and leave the platform immediately,” said Vinod Singh, SHO, GRP Meerut.
A purported video of the incident, widely circulated on social media, shows a white car with a Jharkhand registration number moving along the edge of the platform, dangerously close to a passing train. The vehicle appeared to be on the verge of tipping over before railway cops intervened. “The man was under the influence of alcohol at the time. A medical examination confirmed intoxication,” Singh said, adding that an FIR has been registered at the RPF police station under charges related to “endangering public safety.” The constable’s car and driving licence have been seized, and officials said the process to cancel his licence has been initiated. He has been charged under Sections 145 (drunkenness or nuisance), 147 (trespass and refusal to desist), 154 (endangering safety of passengers), 159 (disobedience to directions of railway staff) of the Railways Act, and Section 34 of the Police Act (punishment for certain offences on roads).
