In view of the upcoming byelection for the Jubilee Hills Assembly constituency, the Cyberabad police have announced restrictions on liquor sale and public gatherings to maintain law and order and ensure peaceful polling.
According to an order issued on Thursday by Cyberabad Police Commissioner Avinash Mohanty, all wine and toddy shops, bars attached to restaurants, and bars of star hotels and registered clubs within the Sanathnagar police station limits, will remain closed from 6 p.m. on November 9 to 6 p.m. on November 11. The restriction will also apply on the counting day (November 14) from 6 a.m. until the completion of counting, and on any re-poll day, if required.
The order, issued under Section 20 of the Telangana Excise Act 1968, aims to maintain public peace and tranquillity during the election period. The byelection for the Jubilee Hills seat is scheduled to be held on November 11.
No assembly of more than 5
In a separate notification issued under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, he prohibited the assembly of more than five persons in the same area during the election period. The restrictions will be in effect from 6 p.m. on November 9 until 6 p.m. on November 12.
The order imposes a complete ban on unlawful assemblies and public meetings. However, the police clarified that the restriction will not apply to door-to-door campaigning involving groups of five or fewer persons.
The Cyberabad police have cautioned that any violation of these orders will invite prosecution under applicable laws.
