Dumka Teen Stabbed to Death, Two Injured in Knife Attack After Fair

Dumka: A teenager died and two others, including a girl of the same age, suffered serious injuries after they were attacked with a knife near Patharia in Dumka district late on Thursday.

The deceased was identified as Lakhindra Soren (16) of Khairbani village under Ramgarh police station limits.The incident occurred when the deceased, along with fellow villager David Hansda, accompanied by a girl, were returning on a bike from a local fair under Jama police station area.As they reached Patharia, three unidentified youths on a bike overtook them and stopped their vehicle. The attackers allegedly tried to forcibly pull the girl off the bike.

When Lakhindra and David resisted, the assailants stabbed all three with knives. Both teenagers and the girl sustained serious injuries in the assault and fell on the roadside. Locals rushed them to Phulo Jhano Medical College and Hospital (PJMCH) in Dumka late at night for treatment.Doctors declared Lakhindra dead on arrival, while David and the girl are still undergoing treatment. Sadar SDPO Vijay Kumar Mahto visited PJMCH to record statements from the injured.

“The body of the deceased was handed over to the relatives after post-mortem,” the SDPO said.Dumka SP Pitambar Singh Kherwar also visited PJMCH and spoke with the victims. “The adolescent girl returned from the fair with her friends. The injured and the deceased are economically weak, so it does not seem like a case of robbery. The investigation is ongoing to determine if it is a love affair or not or attempts to molest the girl. The reason behind the attack will soon be fully revealed. Efforts are underway to identify the attackers,” the SP said.
