EC appoints special observer, reshuffles 5 DEOs and 5 SPs

Guwahati: The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Monday intensifying poll preparedness in Assam, appointed a special observer and ordered reshuffles, appointing five IAS officers as district election officers (DEOs) and as many district SPs in key districts with immediate effect.The commission named Manjeet Singh, a retired IAS officer of the Rajasthan cadre, as special observer for Assam. Describing him as its “eyes and ears,” the ECI said Singh will regularly visit the state to monitor poll-readiness and the conduct of elections, providing inputs wherever necessary.On the other hand, according to the EC directive, P Uday Praveen has been posted as Kokrajhar DEO, Srishti Singh takes charge as Majuli DEO, while Kimnei Changsan has been appointed Baksa DEO, Madhusudan Nath (IAS-2014) as Chirang DEO and Jay Vikash as Udalguri DEO.

Simultaneously, Somalin Shubhdarshini takes charge as Majuli SP, while R Sheetal Kumar has been posted as South Salmara SP, Anchal Chauhan as Sadiya SP, Sudhakar Singh as Chirang SP and Mohan Lal Meena as Dhemaji SP.The commission directed state chief secretary to implement the changes without delay and asked state govt to submit a compliance report by 3 pm on Tuesday.
