CPI national secretary Annie Raja said on Saturday that the reason for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s advice to the people to use resources judiciously was the deep crisis that resulted from the NDA Government’s policies, and he did not dare tell the truth to the people.
The economic situation was chaotic as the Centre failed to handle it properly, Ms. Raja said while addressing the media here.
The Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) was a rights-based system, whereas the new framework, Viksit Bharat-Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) (VB-G RAM G), was bereft of the required safeguards for the workers toiling on the fields for paltry wages.
Under the guise of revising voter lists, she noted that the votes of the marginalised groups, migrant workers, the poor, and minorities were being deleted en masse citing technical issues and minor ‘document discrepancies’. Election promises were being ignored by parties across the spectrum, she alleged.
‘Sarcastic advice’
Ms. Raja termed Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu’s suggestion that people should have more children, and the announcement of incentives for it as ironic and sarcastic.
The CPI and the National Federation of Indian Women would soon launch a nationwide campaign for women’s reservation, she added.
