 Samples to be taken from 300 Namakkal poultry farms for testing

NAMAKKAL: Tamil Nadu Food Safety Department (TNFSDAD) officials will collect samples from 300 poultry farms in Namakkal district for testing in the wake of allegations that cancer-causing chemicals were found in eggs sold by a company.The decision to collect samples was taken at a consultative meeting between TNFSDAD officials and Poultry Farmers Association officer-bearers here on Wednesday.Dr Thanga Vignesh, the designated officer for TNFSDAD in Namakkal district, said there was no chemical in eggs produced in or exported from Namakkal. "After taking samples from all the 300 poultry farms in Namakkal district, we will send them for testing and announce the results in a week," he said.

He said similar tests would be conducted in all poultry farms in the state.Chairman of the National Egg Coordination Committee (NECC) K Singaraj told reporters that there was no adulteration of eggs. "There has never been such a problem in the history of eggs," he said. He appealed to the public not to believe the rumours. "Everyone can eat eggs as they wish and the public should not be afraid," he added.
