The Ministry of Railways has approved for upgradation of electric traction system between Guntur-Pagidipalli and Motumari-Vishnupuram sections, estimated at a cost of ₹188.31 crore.
At present, the electric traction system was operating with 1x 25 KV capacity, and the system will be upgraded to 2x 25KV capacity, which connects the capital region of A.P. and eastern parts of the country, said South Central Railway (SCR) Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) A. Sridhar said in a release here.
Union Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, who sanctioned the project said that Secunderabad-Vijayawada was a very busy railway route. The Guntur-Pagidipalli and Motumari-Vishnupuram will be an alternate route between Secunderabad-Vijayawada. “To run more trains on this route, Indian Railways has decided to upgrade the electric traction system on this section, and the project will be completed in three years,” he added.
The 337 route kilometre project falls in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh States and is vital for freight and passenger transportation, the upgraded traction system will help for seamless operation of trains more efficiently in the section, the release added.
