Patna: Deputy inspector general of the Economic Offences Unit (EOU), Manavjeet Singh Dhillon, on Monday said his unit has begun preparations to confiscate properties of around two dozen sand and land mafias in the state, alongside taking action against members of an examination mafia.Addressing a press conference at the police headquarters, Dhillon said that the notorious examination mafia was defrauding candidates by falsely assuring them of success in recruitment exams, including for police driver posts. “Based on secret information, the main accused of Sheikhpura district was arrested. Another active member of the gang was also taken into custody recently. During interrogation, the EOU obtained several important pieces of information and is engaged in further action,” he added.The DIG also informed that necessary steps have been taken against eight land mafias and 11 sand mafias. “The EOU is preparing to confiscate property worth about Rs 39.79 crore from the eight land mafias and around Rs 15.09 crore from the 11 sand mafias,” Dhillon said.He further added that the unit has tightened the noose on a development officer of the Pataliputra Central Co-operative Bank, revealing that he owns substantial property, which is now under scrutiny.Dhillon said the EOU wass committed to curbing organised crime, targeting mafias involved in land, sand and fraudulent examination activities, and ensuring strict action under the law.
