A video explains why one Indian state still has no operational railway station despite the country’s vast rail network.

India has one of the largest railway networks in the world, reaching remote towns, busy cities, deserts, and coastal regions. Trains connect people across almost every corner of the country and play a major role in daily travel. But despite this vast reach, there is still one place where trains have not arrived yet.
A recent video explains why this gap exists and what makes railway work there especially difficult.
The Video Explains Why Trains Haven’t Reached Here
The video opens with the narrator saying, “India has operational railway stations in every state except one, and that state is Sikkim." It then explains the main reason behind this delay.
More than sixty percent of Sikkim is covered by steep mountains and deep valleys. Railways need flat land, gentle slopes, and wide curves to run safely. In such terrain, this becomes extremely hard to achieve.
The narrator adds that building tracks here means constructing many tunnels and bridges. This sharply increases both cost and difficulty. “This extreme terrain means more bridges and tunnels, sharply increasing construction cost and complexity."
On top of that, the area faces heavy rainfall, frequent landslides, and lies in high seismic zones. These natural risks slow down approvals and stretch construction timelines.
A Railway Line Is Finally Taking Shape
Despite these problems, the video points out that work is underway. “But despite all these challenges, the Sevoke-Rangpo railway line is under construction and is expected to be completed by December 2027."
The narrator clearly states that the delay is not due to lack of effort. “Sikkim doesn’t lack railways due to neglect; it’s because the Himalayas don’t forgive engineering mistakes."
The caption echoes the video’s message: “Sikkim is the only Indian state without an operational railway station, and it’s not due to neglect." It again highlights steep mountains, landslides, and high seismic risk as key challenges. It also notes that the Sivok–Rangpo line could change this long-standing situation.
Viewers Share Mixed Reactions
Shared on December 14, the video has crossed over 1 lakh views and received many comments. A user said, “The service provided by Indian railways is excellent – I am sure that they will find a way to extend its service despite the challenges nature offers in the near future."
Another wrote, “Technology is improving, but if you hurt nature… nature gives back."
A comment read, “It need advance engineering without losing Sikkim land, tree cutting make a advance engineering methods like Japan and China and European buildings it …… It needs only innovation," while others pointed out similar gaps by writing, “And Ladakh Also", “Meghalaya also", and “What about Arunachal Pradesh?"
A user from the state added, “Bro, I’m from Sikkim, I hope they stop this construction. It’ll only destroy the environment and once done, people from the mainland will eventually ruin Sikkim too."
