Antonio Brown is placed on house arrest.
Antonio Brown’s name once stood for athletic brilliance. Now, it’s linked to one of the most serious criminal cases involving a former NFL player in years. The 37-year-old wide receiver, who hasn’t suited up to take the field since 2021, has been placed under house arrest while awaiting trial for an attempted murder charge in Florida.Brown made his first U.S. court appearance on Wednesday after being extradited from Dubai. The former All-Pro was formally charged with one count of attempted second-degree murder with a deadly weapon, stemming from a violent altercation earlier this year. In the Miami courtroom, prosecutors urged Eleventh Judicial Circuit Court Judge Mindy Glazer to hold Brown without bail, saying the nature of the offense demanded it.
The judge, however, disagreed. For Brown, the case adds yet another chapter to a turbulent post-football life. Once one of the league’s most feared playmakers, he has spent recent years surrounded by controversy including financial troubles, erratic behavior, and frequent legal disputes. What was once a Hall of Fame-caliber career now hangs in the shadow of a serious criminal charge that could determine his future far from the field.
Strict conditions set by the judge
According to David K. Li of NBC News, Judge Glazer allowed Brown to remain at home under tight restrictions. “Bail was set at $25,000.” The court also ordered Brown to wear a GPS monitor and avoid any contact with the alleged victim, identified as Zul-Qarnain Kwame Nantambu. The ruling means Brown will be confined to his residence while the case moves forward. The charge dates back to a May incident at a celebrity boxing event in Miami.
A video that surfaced on social media appeared to show Brown in the middle of a chaotic fight during a kickboxing event hosted by streamer Adin Ross. In the clip, Brown was tackled by several people and appeared to respond by kicking one of them. Witnesses later claimed that Brown fired gunshots during the scuffle, leading to the attempted murder charge.Police in Miami-Dade County issued a warrant for Brown’s arrest on June 11. By then, he was already out of the country. Authorities clarified that Brown wasn’t considered to be evading arrest because he had left for Dubai before the warrant was issued. Nantambu, 41, an artist from New Orleans, was later taken into custody on an unrelated charge linked to a Super Bowl protest.More NFL coverage:Russell Wilson's latest post captures a gentle moment with young patients, sparking heartfelt reactions onlineTravis Kelce opens up about meeting Tom Cruise during Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour, compares him to unexpected Hollywood star
