A note recovered from the spot and a 12-page letter addressed to the Punjab DGP reportedly refer to financial distress linked to an alleged cyber fraud. Police said all aspects of the case are being investigated while priority remains on saving his life.

Former Punjab Inspector General of Police (IG) Amar Singh Chahal allegedly shot himself at his residence in Patiala on Sunday, leaving him critically injured. He was immediately rushed to Park Hospital in Patiala, where he is currently undergoing treatment.
Police officials said a note was recovered from the spot, in which Chahal had reportedly mentioned severe financial distress caused by an alleged online fraud. However, authorities stressed that all aspects of the case are being investigated to ascertain the exact circumstances leading to the incident.
According to police sources, a 12-page suicide note written by Chahal has surfaced, addressed to the Punjab Director General of Police (DGP). In the note, described as his “last appeal,” the former IG has detailed an alleged cyber fraud perpetrated against him.
