The music industry is reeling from the sudden and tragic loss of Zubeen Garg, one of the most celebrated voices of India. The iconic Assamese singer and composer, best known for his evergreen hit Ya Ali from the film Gangster (2006), passed away at the age of 52 following a scuba diving accident in Singapore.

In an exclusive conversation, he expressed his disbelief and sorrow over the devastating news.“Bandhu, this is not done… Can’t believe that our Assamese heartthrob, my dearest friend, brother, and one of the finest singer-songwriters of our time, Zubeen Garg, is no more,” Debojit said, his voice heavy with emotion. “We had just reunited after so many years and shared the stage together on 7th September 2025 at Dr. Bhupen Hazarika’s 100th birth centenary celebration at Tata Theatre, NCPA Mumbai. Never did I imagine that would be our last meeting… The thought still makes me shiver as I say this.
It is an irreparable loss to our music fraternity and to the millions whose hearts he touched. My deepest condolences to his family. May his beautiful soul rest in eternal peace.”Debojit and Zubeen had a long-standing bond rooted in their shared love for Assamese music. Their recent reunion was a special moment for both artists, making the loss even more heartbreaking for Debojit.Known as the “Voice of India,” Debojit has carved his own niche as a playback singer in Hindi, Bengali, and Assamese films.
