An explosion rocked a Pakistan security camp at the Boya location in North Waziristan on Friday, as initial reports indicated at least four paramilitary troops were killed, with more details still emerging. Witnesses said a powerful blast was heard, quickly followed by intense gunfire, as militants sought to breach the military installation. According to security officials, the Military Battalion Headquarters in Boya Muhammad Khel, Miranshah, came under attack when a suicide bomber detonated explosives at the camp’s perimeter, after which insurgents attempted to infiltrate the compound. Fierce exchanges of fire continued between the Pakistan Army and armed militants well into the evening.

The attack underscores a renewed surge in militant activity across northwestern Pakistan, particularly in the volatile tribal districts bordering Afghanistan. The banned militant group Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has intensified its operations following the collapse of earlier ceasefire arrangements, staging frequent strikes against security forces. In June this year, a suicide car bombing in Mir Ali, North Waziristan, claimed the lives of at least 16 Pakistani soldiers and injured dozens more, marking one of the deadliest assaults on military personnel in recent months.

Similarly, South Waziristan has witnessed deadly ambushes, including attacks that killed a dozen soldiers and wounded others during convoy movements. Independent security assessments have documented a sharp rise in militant violence across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, with numerous clashes and bombings targeting both army and paramilitary units this year.

Pakistan’s military has responded with heightened counter-terror operations across the northwest, resulting in casualties.
