Explosions and bright flares were seen and heard across the skies of Qatar late Monday night after Iran launched missile strikes targeting the US Al-Udeid Air Base near Doha.

According to Iranian state television, the Al-Udeid base was directly targeted by Iranian missiles in what was described as “a mighty and successful response by the armed forces of Iran to America’s aggression." The announcement aired alongside martial music and a bold caption confirming the strike.

Earlier, Qatar had closed its airspace and suspended commercial air traffic as a precaution amid Iranian threats. The explosions occurred shortly after this move.
