Scores of nursing students, medical and paramedical professionals along with people from different walks of life participated in an awareness jatha on eye donation in Hubballi on Monday.
The awareness jatha, Walk for Sight, was organised by M.M. Joshi Eye Institute and SGM Eye Bank in association with various educational institutions and social organisations as part of the 40th National Eye Donation Fortnight.
The Walk for Sight was jointly flagged off by Director of Karnataka Medical College and Research Institute Eshwar Hosamani, Padmashree award winning Dr. M.M. Joshi and Hubballi-Dharwad Police Commissioner N. Shashikumar.
Beginning from the KMCRI premises, the awareness jatha covered the thoroughfares of the city before concluding at M.M. Joshi Eye Institute at Hosur.
Throughout the jatha, the participants highlighted the significance of eye donation and how it helps in giving a new lease of life to those who have lost sight.
The dignitaries spoke on the need for voluntary eye donation and how eye donation helps one to continue to see life even after they die.
Directors of M.M. Joshi Eye Institute A.S. Guruprasad, R. Krishnaprasad, K.V. Sathyamurthy, Srinivas Joshi and others participated.
Office-bearers and members of the District Blindness Control Society and various social organisations and students of various institutions took part in the programme.
