Four members of a family from West Bengal's Bardhaman district were swept away by strong currents at Bhatinda Falls in Jharkhand's Dhanbad on Sunday while trying to take selfies near the water. The incident sparked panic at the popular tourist spot, but timely intervention by locals, including fishermen, helped avert a major tragedy.

According to eyewitnesses, the family — on a day trip to the scenic waterfall — was clicking selfies near the fast-flowing stream when a woman lost her footing and slipped into the water. Seeing her struggle, her husband, son, and daughter jumped in to save her, but all four began to drown due to the strong current.

Local residents who were fishing nearby noticed the commotion and rushed to help. They jumped into the water and managed to pull all four individuals to safety.

"All of a sudden, we saw someone fall from above. We were fishing at the time. We immediately jumped in and saved them," said one of the rescuers.

The rescued family members were later taken to a private hospital for treatment. All are reported to be out of danger.
