The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is taking up repair and restoration works for the Fatehnagar flyover which is in a bad shape. Two persons were injured in the last week of May this year, when staircase of the Fatehnagar flyover collapsed.
The GHMC invited bids for consultancy services for ‘Consultancy services for Investigation, Non Destructive Testing, Rehabilitation methodologies and preparation of DPR for the work of Restoration measures for Fatehnagar Flyover (Balkampet temple road to Fatehnagar road and Fatehnagar Flyover junction to Sanathnagar road)’, including footpaths and medians.
Issues associated with Railway crossings inadequate carriageway width, improper drainage facilities and pedestrian footpaths, traffic management, lack of efficient mass transport system etc., have resulted in increasing pressure on the existing road network and it is the time for taking up the proper study technically and scientifically to assess the adequacy of the structural strength of existing bridge in order to strengthen and improve it, the tender document said.
The main objective is to conduct non-destructive testing for obtaining immediate restoration of damaged expansion joints, and arrive at necessary estimate quantities and restoration methodologies, it said.
Ultrasonic Pulse Velocity (UPV) testing, rebound hammer testing, and preparation of drawings and report, besides suggestions for restoration scheme, including material specifications, are part of the responsibilities of the consultant. Last date for submission of bid is November 11.
Several flyovers and bridges in the city are under the need for repairs due to wearing out of expansion joints.
