Bhutan Prime Minister in Bodh Gaya

Gaya: Prime Minister of Bhutan, Tshering Tobgay, accompanied by his wife Tashi Doma and official entourage, visited world heritage Mahabodhi Mahavihara in Bodh Gaya on Thursday.

He offered prayers in front of the statue of Lord Buddha in the sanctum sanctorum amid special chanting of sutras, besides visiting the upper floor.

Later, he sat in meditation under the sacred Bodhi tree.The Bhutanese PM said he felt blessed to have connected with such a revered spiritual heritage site.Chairman of Bodh Gaya temple management committee (BTMC), district magistrate (DM) Shashank Shubhankar, senior superintendent of police Anand Kumar welcomed the Bhutanese PM.

The DM, along with BTMC member secretary Mahashweta Maharathi, briefed him about the historical and spiritual significance of the Mahavihara.The DM also presented a replica of the Mahavihara, Bodhi leaf and BTMC publications to him.The DM said this significant visit reflects the enduring bonds of cultural exchange, friendship and mutual respect between Bhutan and India, while further strengthening appreciation for Bodh Gaya’s timeless spiritual legacy.
