The final location survey for doubling of the Tiruchi-Manamadurai broad gauge section via Pudukottai, Thirumayam, Karaikudi, and Sivaganga will be conducted soon.  The nearly 150-km electrified single line stretch is an important route to temple town of Rameswaram which attracts devotees from all over the country.

Railway sources said a tender had been floated by the Southern Railway Construction Organisation to identify an agency to conduct the final location survey for doubling the Tiruchi-Manamadurai stretch through which some inter-State express trains proceed to Rameswaram from different destinations in the north.

The proposed survey would be a detailed exercise as part of which geo-technical investigation would be done.  The final location survey would include preparation of a comprehensive detailed project report for the construction of a double line. Work relating to civil, signal, and telecommunication, electrical and operating also form part of the Final Location Survey.
