Patna: A worker was shot at at a gas pipeline project site of Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) in Aerout village under Rosera police station of Samastipur district late on Thursday night, allegedly over Rs 10 lakh extortion attempt.
Anil Kumar (32) was admitted to the district hospital with a bullet injury to his waist.Police have started an investigation into the matter.Rosera subdivisional police officer (SDPO) Sanjay Sinha said the victim mentioned that around four to five miscreants on two bikes had arrived at the site and demanded Rs 10 lakh from the supervisor, Mrityunjay Kumar, who denied the payment.“According to a statement by the victim, the supervisor told them that he could not meet the demand as the project is of the BPCL.
Following this, the miscreants halted the work, removing a tractor and other tools from there. All the employees also left the site. Later in the night, when the employees came back at the site, the miscreants returned and shot at the supervisor. But the supervisor fell to the ground, and the bullet hit Anil, who was standing behind him,” said the SDPO.He added two rounds were fired at the site, before the miscreants fled the spot. “Initially, Anil was taken to the subdivisional hospital, where doctors referred him to the sadar hospital. An FIR has been filed on the basis of the statements of the victim against unknown persons. We are trying to identify and nab the suspects,” the SDPO said.
