The police registered a case against five persons and arrested two of them on Wednesday (September 17, 2025) in connection with the assault on a TNSTC town bus driver and conductor in the city on Monday (September 15) night.

The police said a 16-year-old girl from Kitchipalayam, studying in a nursing college, was returning home by bus when a passenger allegedly made obscene gestures at her. The girl alleged that despite her complaint to the conductor, no action was taken. She then informed her family members over the phone, who rushed to the bus stand. By the time they arrived, the suspect had already fled.

Angered by the incident, the girl’s relatives confronted the conductor, questioning why the man was allowed to escape. The argument escalated and soon turned violent, with both the conductor and driver being assaulted, the police said.

Based on a complaint lodged by the staff, the Salem Town police booked five persons — Preethi, Arumugam, Raja, Balamurugan, and Hari, all from Kitchipalayam. Arumugam and Balamurugan were arrested, while a search is on for the remaining three.
