Parvatipuram-Manyam Collector A. Shyam Prasad on Tuesday instructed officials to assess the damage caused to crops due to the floods and submit a detailed report within a week to take up remedial measures as suggested by the State government.
He visited the flood-affected areas of — Duggeru, Guntabhadra, Panasabhadra and observed the crop loss and damage to homes and other structures. The locals informed him that destruction caused was due to the heavy inflows into the local streams such as Adaru gedda, Sakiri Gedda, Duggeru Puttur and others.
Mr. Shyam Prasad said that the government would implement relief measures in the flood-affected areas and suggested them not to travel on the ghat roads for the next few days.
Parvatipuram sub-Collector R. Vaishali inspected the situation at Gummidi Gedda stream in Komarada mandal. She directed local revenue officials to provide shelter and food to those affected by the heavy rains.
Despite the damage, officials said that the rains would benefit the farm sector during the Kharif season.
Mr. Shyam Prasad said that adequate fertilizers and seeds would be stocked across all mandals to meet the rising demand especially with the adequate rainfall received in Gummalakshmipuram, Komarada, Saluru, Makkuva and other mandals.
He visited fertilizer shops in Makkuva and other places and checked the stock position. He directed dealers to adhere and sell the stock as per the rates fixed by the government.
In Srikakulam district, the flood situation was controlled, due to clear weather on Tuesday. However, Collector Swapnil Dinakar Pundkar directed irrigation and revenue officials to remain alert for the next few days. He also asked them to take remedial measures in low-lying areas of Vamsadhara, Nagavali, Mahendra Tanaya and other rivers.
Across Vizianagaram district life was back to normal, with no rainfall reported on Tuesday.
