Shivamogga Zilla Panchayat has organised a four-day flower show, handicraft festival, and millet mela at Allama Prabhu Park in Shivamogga, beginning on January 24, to mark Republic Day celebrations.
Shivamogga Zilla Panchayat CEO N. Hemanth, at a press conference here on January 20, said that the flower show will include floral depictions of Jog Falls, a popular tourist destination of Shivamogga, Keladi Shivappa Nayaka, the 17th-century ruler, the fort of the Keladi rulers, and Kedareshwara Temple of Balligavi in Shikaripur taluk.
The event will also feature shops that sell handloom products and handicrafts, with many shopkeepers from Shivamogga and other districts showcasing their unique products as well. “We are launching an e-commerce website called Crafts of Malnad to provide a platform for the crafts of the region which include Hase Chittara, decorative items, and leather products,” the officer said.
Madhu Bangarappa, Minister for School Education and in-charge Minister of Shivamogga district, will inaugurate the event. “We are expecting a good turnout of people at the event, which includes many competitions to engage the visitors,” he added.
