The Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (Wildlife) has asked the Chief Conservator of Forests (CCF) of Chikkamagaluru Circle to probe into the death of leopard reported in Kadur taluk on July 31.
The CCF of Chikkamagaluru has been asked to submit a report within seven days.
A male leopard was found dead in Madagada tank near Emmedoddi in Kadur taluk on July 31. Earlier in the day, two villagers were attacked by a leopard in the same locality. There were speculations that the leopard that attacked villagers and the animal which was found dead later were the same.
Besides that, there were reports that the animal was captured in Chikkanayakanahalli range of Tumakuru district on July 30 and the forest officials allegedly released it near Madagada tank, violating the protocol meant for releasing the wild animals.
Following reports about the violation of the protocol in handling the captured wild animal and the death of leopard in Kadur taluk, the Forest Department had ordered the probe.
The inquiry officer has been asked to find out if the leopard captured in Tumakuru district and the one that attacked villagers in Kadur taluk was the same, secondly, if the leopard that attacked villagers was the one that was found dead later.
Besides that the officer has to probe into the death of the leopard.
