Former Election Commissioner (EC) Ashok Lavasa will be speaking on ‘Election Commission of India: A Sentry Under Attack”, as part of the Ajay Gandhi Memorial Lecture at Manthan at 6:30 p.m. on September 13.
It is an open event. The theme will be the current EC role that is debated in Parliament and is now, a subject of Supreme Court litigation.
Mr. Lavasa will explore the following questions: Is the sentinel of electoral democracy facing questions over its neutrality amid unprecedented challenges? Is there an urgent need to restore popular trust in the poll body, a pre-requisite for the survival of electoral democracy?
He has written two books, An Ordinary Life: Portrait of an Indian Generation (2021), and An Uncivil Servant (2006), and co-authored with Novel Lavas, Echoes of Faith (2024), said a press release.
