Former Maoist zonal commander arrested in Hazaribag

Hazaribag: A former zonal commander of the outlawed outfit CPI (Maoist) was arrested from a village in Barkagaon block of the district on Monday morning. Sunil Ganjhu (40), the accused, is a native of Pathalgada police station limits in neighbouring Chatra district and was wanted in 40 criminal cases.Hazaribag SP Anjani Anjan said Ganjhu was arrested by a special team led by sadar sub-divisional police officer Amit Anand carried from one Jorakat village. Named in 40 criminal cases across Hazaribag, Chatra, Bokaro and Giridih districts, Ganjhu was allegedly involved in murder, attacks on police personnel, extortion and violations of Arms Act.The police claimed that Ganjhu confessed during his interrogation of extorting coal mining companies, their contractors and local businessmen for several years in the Hazaribag-Chatra region. “Operations against Naxal activities will continue. The arrest of Ganjhu has come as a blow to the outfit,” Anjan said.
