Panic gripped Kizhunnapara in Kannur after a jackal reportedly attacked four people on Wednesday.

One of the victims, Shobana, 53, reportedly lost her finger in the attack. She was rushed to the Kannur district hospital with the severed finger.

Hospital deputy superintendent Dr. Grifin said Shobana was vaccinated and immediately referred to the Kannur Government Medical College Hospital (MCH) as the injuries required specialised care. The jackal also reportedly attacked three others in the area. They were identified as Sabira, 58, Subair, 38, and Madanlal Khurana, 40, a migrant worker.

All the four victims were shifted to the Kannur MCH.

The Jackal remains untraced. This is the latest in a series of animal attacks in the district, further intensifying public fear already sparked by widespread stray dog attacks.
