Four sentenced to 20 years jail for gang-rape of woman in 2019

The special court for trial of cases under Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act in Villupuram on Tuesday convicted and sentenced four persons to life imprisonment in connection with the gang-rape of a woman in June 2019.

Special Court Judge A. Packia Jothi sentenced the accused, M. Iyyanar alias ‘Alert’ Iyyanar, 33, S. Iyyanar, 30, P. Alaguvel alias Hariharan, 26, and S. Sethu of Pallicheri, 35, to 20 years imprisonment and slapped a fine of ₹10,000 each.

According to the prosecution, the survivor was returning home from work when the accused abducted and gang-raped her on June 19, 2019. Based on a complaint lodged by the victim, a case was registered by the police under various sections of the IPC.
