Freak accident involving multiple vehicles in Kalamassery disrupts traffic in Ernakulam

Amid heavy rain, an accident involving multiple cars on the bridge over the Container Terminal Road in Kalamassery, Ernakulam district disrupted traffic through the area on Wednesday (June 4, 2025) morning.

Reportedly, waterlogging on the bridge led to the accident around 8.45 a.m. Five cars were involved in the accident, of which two got entangled and could not be separated. Traffic continues to be disrupted in both directions – Kalamassery-Aluva and Aluva-Ernakulam. The police along with the public are attempting to remove the vehicles and restore the traffic.

Accidents have become frequent along the bridge over the Container Terminal Road. Potholes along the bridge get waterlogged during the rain, worsening the problem. Two-wheelers, on noticing the water-filled potholes in the last-minute attempt, a sudden shift in direction and this has been one of the reasons leading to accidents.
