When a student ends her life because she was told she got 6 marks but actually scored 590, you know something’s seriously wrong. And if in one year, 5 out of 14 of the country’s biggest exams have serious issues, there’s clearly a serious credibility crisis with the agency that’s conducting them
Dismayed at getting just six marks in the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (Undergraduate) or NEET-UG 2020, Vidhi Suryavanshi from Chhindwara district, Madhya Pradesh, ended her life.
Her parents later found that the
National Testing Agency
(
NTA
) that conducts the exam had made an error and her response sheet revealed she had actually scored 590.
Established in 2017-2018 to make India’s competitive examination process smarter and less stressful, the NTA has fallen woefully short of expectations.
