Panaji: The food safety standards authority of India (FSSAI) waived registration fees for anganwadis from March 12 and introduced a separate kind of business (KOB) category to simplify the registration and support their role in providing nutrition.Under the new initiative, anganwadis will get a five-year FSSAI registration, minister for women and child development, Vishwajit Rane, said. This replaces selecting validity from one to five years. The waiver applies to anganwadi registration renewals too.Anganwadi centres provide supplementary nutrition to pregnant women, lactating mothers (up to six months after childbirth), and children aged six months to six years, including malnourished children. The directorate of food and drugs administration (FDA) has been organising registration camps in North and South Goa. In Sattari, the North Goa team conducted a two-day hygiene training and FSSAI registration camp, where 108 anganwadi workers were registered.Recently, the FDA held a registration camp at the South Goa collectorate, training 94 anganwadi workers on hygiene and sanitation, and 47 were issued FSSAI certificates. The FDA aims to cover all anganwadis and train them on basic hygiene under FSSAI to ensure food safety.
