Ganga Dussehra is one of the most sacred festivals in Hinduism, celebrated to mark the descent of the River Ganga to Earth. On this day, devotees across the country take a holy dip in the Ganga, as it is believed to wash away sins committed unknowingly and bring good fortune.
The festival is observed every year on the Dashami Tithi of Shukla Paksha in the month of Jyeshtha. This year, it will be celebrated on June 5.
If you are in Delhi-NCR and think you need to go to Haridwar or Prayagraj to participate, you may be overlooking a significant nearby spot. Chhota Haridwar in Muradnagar is just 35 km away from Delhi’s Anand Vihar.

India’s first semi-high-speed Namo Bharat train has made travel quicker and more convenient for people across Delhi, Ghaziabad, and Meerut. Travelling to Chhota Haridwar from the Delhi-NCR region is now faster than ever.
The Namo Bharat currently operates on a 55-km route between New Ashok Nagar in Delhi and Meerut South. Muradnagar Namo Bharat station lies along this route, and Chhota Haridwar is just a short walk away.
With Namo Bharat, the distance from Anand Vihar, Delhi to Chhota Haridwar can be covered in just 22–23 minutes. The fare for a standard coach from Anand Vihar to Muradnagar is Rs 80, while the premium coach costs Rs 95.
From Ghaziabad, which is only 18 km away, the journey to Muradnagar takes about 12 minutes, and the fare is just Rs 40 in standard class. Travelling from Meerut South (Bhudbaral) to Muradnagar, approximately 23 km, takes around 13–14 minutes with a fare of Rs 60.

The Namo Bharat train not only makes religious travel faster but also ensures a safe and comfortable journey. The train features air-conditioned coaches, cushioned seats, mobile charging points, clean interiors, and enhanced security, making it suitable for women, elderly passengers, and children.
Boost To Local Economy and Religious Tourism
The launch of the Namo Bharat train has given a significant boost to religious tourism and local businesses around Muradnagar. Small traders and shopkeepers are benefiting from the increased footfall of devotees and tourists.
Currently, Namo Bharat runs between 11 stations on its 55-km stretch from New Ashok Nagar to Meerut South. Metro services from Meerut South are expected to start soon, covering stations like Partapur, Rithani, Shatabdi Nagar, Brahmapuri, Meerut Central, Bhaisali, Begumpul, MES Colony, Daurli, Meerut North, Modipuram, and Modipuram Depot. Notably, Meerut Central, Bhaisali, and Begumpul will be underground stations.
Namo Bharat will also run at a top speed of 160 km/h from four stations in Meerut: Meerut South, Shatabdi Nagar, Begumpul, and Modipuram.
Modern Facilities at Stations
All Namo Bharat stations offer free drinking water, toilets, and daily newspapers in both English and Hindi. Diaper-changing stations are available in washrooms for mothers travelling with infants. Service lanes below the stations allow cabs and private vehicles to drop passengers near the entry and exit points, reducing congestion and the risk of accidents.
Each station is equipped with CCTV cameras, and additional surveillance is in place inside all train coaches to ensure passenger safety. These features will also be available at the upcoming Meerut Metro stations.
